Manegg school to expand for all-day school – 500 lunches a day instead of 150

From 2030 the school will take over the neighbouring building at Mutschellenstrasse 102. The city executive has approved CHF 3.32 million to plan the conversion.

The building at Mutschellenstrasse 102 currently houses the school for children and young people with physical and multiple disabilities, which is moving to the new Saatlen school. The city then wants to use the building for the Manegg school, because pupil numbers in the neighbourhood keep rising and all-day school (Tagesschule) is to be introduced.

What is planned

  • A commercial kitchen in the basement: instead of 150 meals today, 500 meals a day are to be served.
  • Extra classrooms and group rooms on the upper floors, plus rooms for the Zurich music school (Musikschule Konservatorium Zürich).
  • New heating, ventilation, electrical and plumbing systems, a new façade and solar panels on the roof.
  • A “Züri-Modular” prefab pavilion on the school grounds can then be removed, giving the children that outdoor space back.
